Toward a zero-waste model: Potential for microorganism growth on agricultural waste products in Hawaii

چکیده

Microorganisms hold vast potential to address the growing demand for sustainable fuel, feed and other bioproducts . In Hawaii, over 85% of all goods (including food petroleum) are imported, making need renewable products more pressing. The zero-waste model aims use agricultural waste from including those unmarketable due post-harvest damage or pests, as carbon substrate growth heterotrophic microorganisms. microbial end-product in turn can be used a source high protein lipid (fat), depending on species substrate, downstream production biodiesel bioproducts. Hydrothermolysis of Agricultural Waste

The consumption of petroleum products has been significantly increasing year by year. Petroleum offers a tremendous convenience for our life, and our daily life would be quite different without it. However, the depletion of petroleum is creeping under our foot. Lignocellulosic biomass has unlimited potential because it is possible to substitute for petroleum as energy and chemical sources. Rece...

A Strategic Framework for Working toward Zero Waste Societies Based on Perceptions Surveys

The visionary concept of zero waste advocates a systematic process of designing out waste and recovering resources from waste. A strategic zero waste framework (ZWF) is essential for developing and executing systematic waste management activities to achieve the overarching goals. This study identifies the key principles for the development of a strategic ZWF based on a waste experts’ survey ana...

An On-farm Swine Waste Management System in Hawaii

INTRODUCTION A prototype of a swine waste treatment system for a 20-25 sows operation was investigated for its potential of odor control, byproduct utilization and treated wastewater reuse. The high solid portion of the swine waste ranging from 4% to 8% TS was treated and stabilized by the anaerobic process with an HRT (hydraulic retention time) of 32 days. The diluted liquid portion from raw a...
